đź’ś TRANSITIONS, CHANGES & FLEXIBILITY đź’ś
Transitions and unexpected changes can be hard. đź’ś Here I’ll share the visuals, tools, items, and strategies I use with James to help him know what’s coming, move from one thing to another, and handle those moments when things don’t go quite as expected. Take what works for your child and make it your own.

Visual Timer
This timer is one of those things I reach for all the time with James. I use it to show him how much time he has left before something ends or it’s time to move on to something else.
Instead of constantly telling him “five more minutes” or “almost time,” he can actually see the time getting smaller. I use it for tablet time, getting ready, activities, breaks, and transitions throughout the day. It doesn’t make every transition magically perfect, but I’ve found that it helps James understand what’s coming and when.

Change of Plans
Sometimes plans change, and that can be hard when James is already expecting something else to happen. I made this visual so I can show him what the original plan was and what’s happening instead. It gives him something he can actually see instead of me only trying to explain the change with words. 🩵

Doctor’s Visit
A visual support designed to help your child become familiar with what happens during a doctor's appointment. Featuring nine common parts of a visit, from checking blood pressure to listening to their heart, this resource offers a visual way to explore what they might experience in the exam room.

HOW WE'RE USING IT WITH JAMES:
We use this visual to help James become more familiar with what to expect during a doctor's appointment. It gives us a way to talk about different parts of the visit before we go, including having his temperature checked, listening to his heart, and looking in his ears. Our goal is to help him feel more prepared by showing him what might happen rather than relying on verbal explanations alone.
